Alen looks like a young, 14 to 15 year old boy of average height. He looks frail, since besides the fact that he isn't all that tall, he's quite slender, but looks can be deceiving. As a matter of fact, many things about him are deceiving, or at least mysterious, when given thought. His hair is a glossy, brown colour that usually looks wind-blown which is cut loosely to reach, at the back, more or less the back of his neck, and brushes his eyes at the front. He would appear handsome if he wasn't so young, with his clear-cut and frank face and those deep blue eyes he has, which seem somehow distant. His cheerful and innocent demeanour usually allows him to make friends without much trouble, and sometimes even a love interest or two, but he never seems to get involved too deeply with anyone. His usual outfit is a blue travelling robe that opens a little from his chest upwards, which reaches to his ankles. He usually wears short travelling boots on his feet and a white shirt-like garment underneath his robe, which covers the area his robe leaves unprotected neatly from about his chest to his neck. Besides his usual clothes, which he almost always wears, changing the robe every few years when it starts looking ragged and torn all over, he usually carries a quiver of arrows on his back, and hangs a bow from his shoulder, using both with decent skill in the wilderness. He also carries a little backpack in which he has some basic necessities, such as Herbal Extracts, Moon Drops, and so on. When walking a lot, he uses a staff or rod- or just a sturdy stick if neither is available- to support himself and to make his travelling easier. Strangely enough, though he has wandered through most of Vay, from the chilly to the tropical regions of it, his complexion was and still is pretty pale, unaffected by the cold and cutting winds and the searing sun, and his skin is still smooth and boyish-like, much unlike the parched and weathered one of most knowledgeable travellers. He doesn't usually wear any headgear, save, every once in a while, tiaras or bandannas, or other comfortable pieces. He's always seen wearing a strange-looking band on his left wrist, and he hasn't ever been known to take it off. What's more, he usually doesn't let anyone go near it, though what exactly it means to him is unknown.
His full name is Alen Hajime, though he usually just goes by 'Alen'. Even though he does look like a young boy, he's actually very old! He claims he lost count a couple of years ago, and places his age at around 1030, give or take a few years...! He's the younger brother of Solon Hajime, one of the five great magicians who sealed away the Armor of Vay, the magician of Water, from Kerzalt.
It was generally said
at the time that Solon got the lion's share of magical power in the family,
being much stronger than Alen. Alen, also, never really shined in the art
of Water, which his brother was a master of, though he did master other
kinds of magic. His specialty, Soul, was not bad at all- it's said he practiced
with Elynthia once- and he also had reasonably strong Fire and Air magic,
as well as a good insight on the nature of magic, which translated into
a good hold of the Spellcraft art of magic.
It's difficult to form a clear picture of Alen's personality. He's good spirited, optimistic, hungry (yes, it's an important part of his personality!) spontaneous- and a major ditz. Though he's a good friend and will help you out when you're in trouble, and you can rely on him to do something, unless he forgets, he can be dangerous. If something can go wrong, be sure it will when Alen is around. Lighting a dark waterway with an electric blast, asking kidnappers and thieves for directions, frying a wet person with a flame spell- those are just some of the things he's been known to do. He isn't always in touch with what's happening; he isn't always paying attention to what people say, and he usually is a let's-do-stuff-as-we-go-along guy. He does, however, keep some things for himself, such as "How the hell did you get inside the castle before we did, if the gate wasn't open and the guards didn't see anything!?" and generally revealing little about how he has managed to survive for over a 1000 years (I mean, you and I can't, so why can he?). He's been known to act weird every so often. Nobody knows how or why this happens, and it doesn't seem like it'll be discovered very soon, the way things are going.
He doesn't really seem to have any motivations besides sleeping regularly, eating properly- pancakes if he can- and helping collect the Orbs so the Danek don't get them.
All in all, though much is known about him, much still remains a mystery. Why doesn't he die? How did he survive that monstrous fall at the Pegasus Temple? What connection does he have with the Orbs? Will he ever get pancakes instead of grits? Only time will tell!
